Kerala (God's Own Country)

In my many trips to India, I have been told by locals there to visit Kerala which the locals have affectionately called "God's Own Country". Unfortunately, there was nothing available visually that will entice me to go. All I have heard is, it is a beautiful place.

Recently, I received a set of images said to be taken at Kerala. I despatched them over to my colleagues in India (one of whom is from Kerala) and this is what he has to say.

Yes these photos are of my home state Kerala. If you recollect I told you that it is worth spending a holiday here...

The tea estates are close to my wife's place and about 100kms from Cochin (my home town). The place is called Munnar.

The boathouses operate in the backwaters of Kerala. We (my family) stayed in the same type of boat houses last year. The boat has two full fledged rooms with attached bath. Going through the backwaters early morning with birds chirping and the sun slowly coming up is an experience that cannot be described.

Let me know if you are tempted to take a break in Kerala.

Kerala is a very nice place to visit. I have been to some of these places (Like Munnar (hill station), Thekadi (a lake in which people go for a boat ride early in the morning to get a view of various animals drinking water in the lake, Vaithri resort etc).

Kumarakom is another beautiful place in Kerala. I haven't been to that place. Planning to go one day.

I recommend that you plan one of your vacations in Kerala. It is worth it.

Now, perhaps I may just make that trip. Here are the photos.
